My wife, Lynn, and I have been married for over 50 years and have two daughters, three granddaughters, two grandsons and three great-granddaughters. All of them except one grandson live in the Huntsville area so we spend a lot of time with family. I am retired from NASA and manage several rental properties. Lynn is on her third career, this time as a Realtor, after working as an accountant and owning a wedding chapel. We are also now into the process of establishing a non-profit organization that will provide inexpensive housing for single mothers along with opportunities to improve their education and work options to help them achieve a better quality of life. We also host and co-lead a D Group with GracePointe. For a couple of “senior” citizens, we have very busy lives but I also manage to play tennis a couple of times a week to provide some balance in my life.
We have been members at GracePointe for about 7 years and have served in various roles there. I have been a deacon and an elder in addition to doing light maintenance work to keep things looking good and working well at the church. While I have seen some significant changes take place at GracePointe during that time, I remain encouraged by the growth I have seen there in the past year in spite of the “plague”. We were first drawn to GracePointe by the friendliness of the members there and I continue to see that friendliness extended to visitors and new members on a consistent basis. My vision for GracePointe is that the body will continue to grow both in numbers and in spiritual depth and will reach out to our surrounding community to offer a welcoming and supportive place to worship, grow and serve our Lord.
One of the many things I have learned throughout my life is that things don’t always go as I had planned. But, they always go the way God has planned. This is best reflected in my favorite verse which is Proverbs 16:9 – “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps”. So, if things don’t appear to be going the way you think they should, reflect on this verse and ask the Lord to guide your steps. You’ll end up where you need to be. Enjoy the journey.
